A man accused of repeatedly stabbing an OAP in a frenzied knife attack called 999 and said he had killed someone, the Irish Sun can reveal.
Detectives are not looking for anyone else in connection with the gruesome murder of the victim, identified locally as Scott George.
Mr George’s remains were discovered in a two-storey house in the townland of Tobersool, near Balbriggan, in the north of the county. Dublin.
Gardai who responded shortly after 11:20 PM on Thursday evening were met by a gruesome scene.
A source said: “The victim suffered a shocking death. There was a lot of blood and it was a horrible scene, horrible.”
A 29-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken away by detectives.
The Irish Sun has learned that the man is known to the victim but has suffered from his own mental problems health problems.
The suspect was due to celebrate his 30th birthday later this month and had never previously come to the attention of the Garda.
After Mr George was killed, he reportedly called emergency services and told them he had killed a man, saying it was in a house and that the other man was not alive.
He remained in Garda custody in Balbriggan last night and is receiving all necessary medical attention.
The suspect may be interrogated for a total of 24 hours, not including breaks for rest periods.
Locals on the quiet road told how they were left stunned by the murder.
Someone told us: ‘When it gets dark, no one comes along the road except those who live on it.
“It’s very quiet, so when the commotion started on Thursday evening, people at first thought it was a fire.
“But it turned out to have been much more tragic. It’s just very sad, very tragic.”
A Garda forensic team carried out an investigation and the body was removed before 12.30pm.
A post-mortem will take place before his body is released ahead of funeral arrangements.
A Garda spokeswoman said: “A senior investigating officer has been appointed to lead the investigation and an incident room has been established at Balbriggan Garda Station.
“Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward, particularly those who were in the Tobersool, Balbriggan, Co. area on Thursday, December 12, 2024 between 10:00 PM and 11:20 PM. found in Dublin.
“In addition, individuals with video recordings, including motorists with dashcams, from the area within the time frame are being asked to provide footage to investigating gardaí.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact Balbriggan Garda Station on (01) 666 4500, the Garda Confidential Line on (1800) 666 111 or any other Garda Station.”
